Defining Ourselves

The journey to reaching out to every child is difficult, heartbreaking sometimes. In our pursuit to give the best to our children, we make mistakes along the way. We learnt that we do not have to be great at everything, but we can try. As a team, there were times where we disagree passionately on methodology, in our approach, especially when it comes to better serving the most marginalised, the most vulnerable. Sometimes, we are so into the work we get lost amid heavy load that we often have to check in with each other to see if the child is still at the centre of it all. 

Questioning our ways often is the way we keep ourselves in check. The last 5-years have taught us to be humble-confident. Confident that what we’re doing makes a difference but humble enough to pivot as we listen, receive feedback and continuously learn. We are aware that we can’t do everything ourselves and we couldn’t be more grateful for the support and guidance received from the local communities and partners.

Moving forward, forgoing the traditional goal setting, we would ask ourselves “Whom does Arus want to be in 2020?” “What does Arus want to develop and improve in 2020, for ourselves and our children?” “What meaningful experiences does Arus want to create for the child?”

We have never been this clear to commit to a cause. So, not only to 2020 but to the years to come – as a team, we will strive to learn and relearn so that we can design and deliver programs that will harness our children’s potential to be the best versions of themselves, find success in learning and improving their life’s trajectories.
